Given the title of this blog, the included pictures of former President Obama, and the message in the memes you may be thinking I am anti-Democratic. Or is it pro-Republican?

Let’s put that to rest...RIGHT NOW!

I am anti-politics. Especially with governments that only have corporations interest at heart. 

I peacefully do not participate in the U.S. Political System anymore.

Nor do I watch much of what is mainstream; to include the news.

Even with a 20 year history as an allied health professional, trained by traditional medicine curriculums, I certainly do not follow the teachings of the FDA and USDA.

Nor do I give two $hits about Trump’s Tweets.

Many of you reading this may find my behavior in creating this blog disturbing. 

I understand, and I accept that burden. 

Others may be shaking their heads, too. Wondering what politics has to do with Roundup?

Let me explain  

My interest is NOT to convert any liberal, conservative, Democrat or Republican, even libertarians to any opposing side. My heartfelt sincerity is to inform you on the dangers of glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup. 

As well as inform you on how powerful corporate lobbyists can be. Along with how disingenuous the EPA and USDA are.

Glyphosate – What, Why, Where?

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, is the most heavily used chemical weed killer in agricultural food production; worldwide!

Here is a helpful review and quick history on the original intended use of glyphosate. Along with the understanding of the direction corporate giant Monsanto has taken with this dangerous compound.

In 1964, Stauffer Chemical Company was awarded a patent on glyphosate because of its ability to remove accumulating minerals in metal drain pipes. 

YES, JUST LIKE DRANO IT WAS INTENDED TO UNCLOG PIPES, METAL ONES.

In 1974, John E. Franz of Monsanto, discovered that glyphosate had herbicidal properties too; it killed “weeds”. Eureka, Roundup was born. With glyphosate being the active ingredient.

But during experiments, Mr. Franz identified that glyphosate had an inherent problem. It wreaked havoc on the plant’s development due to metabolic poisoning. It did not just kill the weeds that endangered the crops it killed the crops too. 

IT SIMPLY POISONED THE TESTED PLANTS AND KILLED THEM, JUST LIKE THE “WEEDS”.

SO, WHAT DID THEY DO, YOU ASK? 

Welp, they devised an amazing plan.

In their kind-hearted attempt to ensure that the heartland of America could use Roundup, Genetically Modified Food (GMO) was born.  From the makers of Agent Orange, NutraSweet, hydraulic fluids, non-degradable food packaging and slews of banned chemicals, Monsanto began to experiment on commercial food crops.  Crops such as corn, oats, wheat, barley, soy, and cotton have been specifically manipulated to survive the onslaught of glyphosate derived herbicide. High doses of Roundup that previously would kill a crop could now can withstand the absorbed toxins, grow, be harvested, and abundantly used in the U.S. food supply.

These foods are sold to Americans today, and worldwide; except in some countries that have banned GMO crops and Roundup.  GMO foods are now staple ingredients in most manufactured foods. 

And are the foundational foods on the USDA Food Guide Pyramid – get your 6-8 servings of grains today!!!!

In one form or another, whether as refined sugars such a high fructose corn syrup or beet sugar, oils, vitamins or binding agents, ingredients from these genetically engineered plants are now found in about 80% of the processed foods sold in grocery stores across this country.

Because glyphosate is absorbed into the plant’s cellular structure it cannot be removed. Try washing, peeling, baking, brewing, or any other method and it stays deep within the plants cell. 

Any crop or farm animal exposed will pass on its accumulation of Roundup to anyone who consumes it. In recent years a growing number of studies have found glyphosate in most common foodshuman urinebreast milkbeer, even 85% of tamponswhich are made of cotton.

Another Enjoyable Fact of Glyphosate!

As the original pipe cleaning patent indicated, glyphosate also binds (chelates) to vital nutrients such as iron, manganese, zinc, and boron. Which are not only found in pipe sediment but are vital nutrients for living beings.  It very effectively prevents plants from gathering vital nutrients from dense soil.  GMO plants treated with glyphosate have lower levels of essential nutrients and tend to be stunted in growth.  These finding compared GMO and non-GMO controls that were not treated with glyphosate.

NOT TO MENTION THE ABILITY FOR GLYPHOSATE TO CHELATE, OR BIND, TO ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS IN OUR BODY CAUSING DEFICIENCIES.

America versus The World

Under the Reagan Administration, in 1985, the EPA classified glyphosate as a possible carcinogen based on a long-term feeding study in which male mice fed glyphosate developed kidney tumors.  At that time an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) established by the EPA toxicology division was set at 0.1 mg/kg/day.  

On June 26, 1991 the EPA reclassified glyphosate as a non-carcinogenic for humans.  Monsanto lobbyists were successful in the reclassification by presenting in-house information saying glyphosate was safe “based upon lack of convincing carcinogenicity evidence”.  By the way, this convincing was done with just two short term animal trials. The U.S. EPA made the reclassification decision based on Monsanto’s, corporate, unsupervised  "studies" which have never been placed thru the peer review process. Nor has any of the original data from these studies been reported to regulatory agencies.

NOR HAVE THEY EVER BEEN MADE PUBLIC.

Rather than take Monsanto’s approach on allowable levels.  Europe took a more scientific approach. In a 1998 evaluation, Germany’s Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) determined that the allowable residue level should be set at 0.3 mg per kilogram of body weight.  This was based on trials that are understood to be the most sensitive to the effects of the chemical.

Even as the World Health Organization has been investigating glyphosate as a true carcinogen, the EPA has been gradually increasing the ADI of glyphosate to scary levels.  As compared to our European counterparts who have set more strict limits or outlawed the product all together.

Making 'Merica Great Again...

In 2013, the EPA, under the direction of the Obama administration, actually increased the allowed tolerance pesticide exposure levels on glyphosate. Let me repeat that....President Obama INCREASED allowable glyphosate to an all time high in 2013

WHAT IS MOST ALARMING, IS THAT THE DIRECTION WAS SOLELY BASED ON A PETITION TO THE AGENCY SUBMITTED BY MONSANTO.

Also included in the increase was toxic zoxamide; a nasty fungicide.

THE U.S. ADI LEVEL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY SET AT 0.1MG/KG/DAY IS NOW AT A

skyrocketing 1.75 mg/kg/day.*  

(*ALL BY JUST A PETITION FROM MONSANTO.)

 

·      THAT IS 17.5 TIMES GREATER THAN THE ORIGINAL ADI SET BY THE EPA IN THE 1980S.

·      NEARLY 6 TIMES GREATER THAN ACCEPTABLE LEVELS ALLOWED IN EUROPE.

 What Could Possibly Be the Problem If Our Government Says It’s Safe?

Progressive, scientific researchers are clearly showing that chemicals can have damaging effects at much lower levels than previously understood. A whole new body of research is finding that glyphosate has very serious, disruptive capabilities. Which growing evidence is now linking to increase disease incidences in the U.S.

Findings, well before Former President Obama increased the allowable limits of Roundup, clearly concluded that low level exposure had serious negative impacts than previously understood; even compared to the early 1980’s.

Our current regulatory system relies on outdated risk and exposure methodology.  It trusts safety assessments that only call for high-dose exposure studies.  More damaging, it allows claims made by in-house, corporate research which do not face scrutiny or transparency of methodology. 

In other words, Monsanto dictates what is safe for you to eat and the government says “okay”.

But all is not well in world of GMO and Roundup

 Cancer

In March 2015, leading cancer experts from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) declared that glyphosate is a “probable human carcinogen.” IARC reached its decision based on the research of 17 top cancer experts from 11 countries, who met to assess the carcinogenicity of 5 pesticides. The IARC review of glyphosate has led to the European Parliament calling for a complete ban on non-commercial public use of glyphosate and serious restrictions on agricultural use.

HERE ARE SOME SPECIFIC CONCERNS OVER THE FOLLOWING CANCERS

•           Kidney Cancer

•           Pancreatic Cancer

Hormone Disruption

There is evidence suggesting that low levels of glyphosate hack hormones.  In 2009, glyphosate was found to prevent normal androgen activity in human liver cells at a dose of 0.5 ppm. Which is 35 times less than current safe exposure limits set by the Obama Administration.

Another study, conducted in 2013, found low levels of glyphosate mimics the effects of estrogen in human breast cancer cells in vitro.

Kidney & Liver Damage

A ground-breaking peer-reviewed study was published in Environmental Health Journal in 2015. It shows the levels of glyphosate-based herbicides which the general public are commonly exposed to in drinking water, altered the gene function of over 4000 genes in the livers and kidneys of rats.

Autism

At an alarming rate, Autism has been on a stellar rise over the past two decades.  Individuals with Disabilities Education act (IDEA) has noted a significant change in autism diagnosis, per capita, then previously document. The pattern of this rise is extremely well matched temporally to the rising use of glyphosate on corn and soy crops, as pointed out in an article by Swanson and co-investigators.

Dr. Seneff indicated a relationshipbetween the use of Roundup on crops and GMO seeds with rising rates of autism. Children with autism have biomarkers indicative of excessive glyphosate, including zinc and iron deficiency, low serum sulfate, seizures, and mitochondrial disorder.

Under the current leadership of President Donald John Trump, Reuters reported on December 17, 2017 that the EPA suggests that glyphosate is not a carcinogenic; contrary to the World Health Organization. 

Keep in mind, President Trump has an autistic son.

HAVE RESULTED IN EVERY CAPITOL HILL POLITICIAN ALLOWING A CHEMICAL THAT ERODES AMALGAMATES, IN METAL PIPES AND THAT HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE DISEASES LIKE CANCER, TO BE PUMPED INTO OUR FOOD SUPPLY.

So, I hope now you see that I have no political agenda. Other than to highlight that leaders we choose have no genuine interest in our wellbeing.

So, you thought it could not get any better than just plain old glyphosate?  Oh NO......the caring folks at Monsanto and the EPA have outdone themselves.  “The result, unrivaled weed control designed to land and stay on target.”  You know that stuff that was outlawed about 40+ years ago called Agent Orange (Monsanto created)? 

Yeah, well, the EPA now deams Agent Orange, a listed carcinogen, to be safe to be added to RoundUp, called EnlistDuo.  This is no joke or untruth.  2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), a.k.a. Agent Orange, has been approved even with EPIC data linking it to various chronic diseases, birth defects, and causal factors for cancer, neurological disorders, and cardiovascular disease; in 2010.  2,4-D is also found in Scott's Turf Builder, which is banned in Denmark, Norway, Kuwait, Australia, and two of Canada's provinces.

What To Do Now?

The evidence is very strong against the safety of glyphosate.  However, exposure is inevitable. Glyphosate is now found in organic crops and commonly used items. Runoffs have accumulated in the US water supply.

Avoiding food and water is not the answer. Here are some methods to decrease exposure:

1.    TEST GLYPHOSATE LEVELS VIA BLOOD AND URINE TESTING

2.    TEST YOUR DRINKING WATER, ALSO AVAILABLE AS A LABORATORY TEST

3.    HEAL THE GUT LINING.

4.    PROMOTE BENEFICIAL BACTERIAL GROWTH

5.    ASSIST DETOXIFICATION WITH EFFECTIVE SUPPLEMENTATION

6.    BE AWARE OF HERBICIDE/PESTICIDE EXPOSURE

7.    AVOID GMO CROPS

8.    CONSUME ORGANICALLY GROWN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, AS WELL AS GRASS-FED MEATS

9.    PROPERLY WASH PRODUCE BEFORE CONSUMING

10. USE SUPPLEMENTS THAT COUNTERACT THE CHELATING EFFECT OF GLYPHOSATE

 

There Are Solutions

There are many independent peer-reviewed studies that show the damage caused by glyphosate to human, animal and environmental health. Many of these studies can be found here in this article. But they are just the tip of iceberg. There are many organizations dedicated to providing awareness too.
